Alphonsa School – 2005

Fr. George Thomas Chelackal was asked by the Patron Mar Paul Chittilapilly, Bishop of Thamarassery
and the Manager Very Rev.Fr. Joseph Myladoor to take over the Principal ship of the Alphonsa
School on 1st April, 2005.

Every day the School Assembly meets and each class is in charge of the assembly. Daily assemblies
help children to develop their talents, overcome their stage fright and build up self-confidence. This
year we have introduced a special programme “Reflections for the week” delivered by our teachers
on Wednesdays. It inculcates moral values and life principles in our children.

In association with the Hindu Newspaper we have introduced “Newspaper in Education Programme”
for the academic year, 2005-06, for the students of standards VII, VIII and IX. It was officially
inaugurated on 16th July, 2005. It is an opportunity to learn various language skills and life skills for
our children.

A new beginning was made to bring the parents closer to Alphonsa School. With this aim seminars
for parents of Standards I to XII were arranged. This three days Seminar was conducted by Rev. Prof.
Paul Pottackal CMI. Parents opined, that it was useful for them. We have introduced a new practice
in which the parents come with their wards to receive the Progress Card. It gave them an
opportunity to interact with the class teacher and other teachers.

Education is a dynamic process that is shaped and influenced by many stakeholders. We have a team
of committed staff, both teaching and non-teaching, who are always motivated to give their best.
The School has arranged a few days training programme for our teachers. It was given in different
courses by Prof. Tomy Cheriyan, St. Thomas College Pala; Fr. C.P. Varkey SJ eminent educationist and
counsellor; Very Rev. Fr. Geo Pulickal, former Principal of Nirmalagiri College, Koothuparamba and
Prof. Jesudoss Jeya Paul, Loyola College, Chennai. For the sake of effective teaching learning process
our teachers were divided into different departments. Each department is headed by a Head of the
Department. All the heads of the department and a few teachers attended workshops conducted by
Sahodaya School Complex and other agencies.

Each class was asked to bring out a manuscript magazine to give expressions to their literary talents.
The School magazine that will be published at the end of the academic year will contain the selected
articles and stories from the class magazines. Fr. Tomy Kalathoor, Vice Principal, is the Chief editor of
the School Magazine.

Alphonsa School – 2006

Patron reconstituted the Alphonsa Educational & Charitable Trust. The new trust members are Msgr.
Thomas Nagaparambil, Chairman Very Rev.Fr.Joseph Mannoor Director, Manager Very Rev. Fr.
Joseph Myladoor, Fr.Mathew Mavely, Fr. Joseph Keelath, Fr. Augustine Manakkattumattam and Fr.
Remegius Inchananiyil.

The Management ensures best infrastructural facility to the school. The Management positively
responded to the request of constructing a school hall. On 2nd June it was blessed by our Patron.

Farewell to Fr. Joseph Myladoor

The same day also witnessed a farewell function given to Very Rev.Fr.Joseph Myladoor, who has been the Manager of Alphonsa School for the last six years. Being physics graduate hails from St. Thomas College, Palai he has clear vision for the formation of the coming generation. Many of the infrasturctural facilities like the plus two wing, the spanious library, the school hall, the language laboratory are materialised due to his futuristic vision. As Principal Fr. George Thomas always received unstinting support and fatherly understanding from him. The memories of all his Good deeds are fresh in the mirrors of everyone’s minds. 5 th July 2006 was a memorable day for Alphonsa. One of our alumni cadet Cinu Chandran. National Defence Academy, Pune visited and addressed our students. On 7th July Msgr. Thomas Nagaparambil Chairman of Alphonsa Educational Charitable Trust offered the Holy Mass and talked to the students. Fr. Roy Kannanchira CMI, Ko Director, Deepika Chidren’s League inaugurated a wing of DCL here in 14 th July 2006.

E-LID Programme 2006

To attain a better proficiency in English we have launched a new programme LID [Language
Improvement Diary]. I am happy to announce that our English Department is ready with a handbook
for effective communication in English.

Many of our students have taken part in OISCA International Top teen’s contest 2006 and DCL IQ
Development Examination.

On 18th September, the sightless welfare society Mukkom conducted an orchestra.

Our students contributed their maximum to help the blind.

Teachers Seminar 2006

The quality and commitment of the faculty is the most important factor that goes to determine the effectiveness of a school. Professional development of teachers and principal is of crusial importance in order to get the desired quality output and raise the standards of education in schools. A number of in-service orientation programes for our teachers were arranged. There programmes were led by Sri George Karunackal, Director Prospects Management Consultancy Kochi Prof. K .M Francis Head of the Department Economics St. Thomas College, Trichur. All the heads of the department and a fellow teachers attended workshops conducted by Sahodaya School Complete Malabar Region and other agencies.

Fr. George Thomas Chelackal participated in Footprints. An International Symposium on Effective Schools, Effective Leadership from October 16 to 18 2006 held at Little Rock Indian School Brahmavar, Karnataka.

Fr. George Thomas Chelackal also participated in the three day Faculty Development Programme on Leadership Development for Principals of Schools Affiliated to CBSE, Kerala organized by Indian Institutes of Management Kozhikode during December 07 to 09, 2006.

Sanitation Drive 2006

Responding to the request of the authorities our children visited around 400 houses in association with the project of eradicating Chikungunya. They were divided into twenty groups and were guided by our teachers. They conscientized the people.

Science Exhibition 2006

Science exhibition on 30th October 2006. It was inagurated by Sri K. Bhaskaran, DEO Thamarassery, in the presence of Fr. Mathe Mavely, corporate Manager Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Mannoor, and our school Manger, Fr. Remegius Inchananiyil and Mr. K Abdulla Yoosuf, Principal M J Higher Secondary School Elettil. The exhibits contemned the mobile science unit of planetorium, Calicut as we. On the whole the exhibition was really informative and interesting. I thankfully acknowledge the effort taken by the convenor, Sri Paulose K A.

Construction of Staff Quarter’s

The foundation stone for the staff quarters was laid by Mar Paul Chittilapilly. Our Patron, on 13th December 2006. All the Trust members were present for the function.

Academic Year 2007-2008

Commemoration day of the founder of Alphonsa School, Mar Sebastian Mankuzhikary was on 11th June 2007. Fr. Joseph Poothakuzhy, Vicar, St. George church, Chamal was the chief guest. Feast of Blessed Alphonsa , Our Patroness was solemnly celebrated on 27th July, 2007. Very Rev. Fr Joseph Keelath, Vicar Mary Matha Cathedral, Thamarassery was our chief guest.

We arranged seminars and workshops for parent’s .Sri. George Karunackal, Director Prospects Management Consultancy, Kochi, led the programme.

Fr. George Thomas Chelackal attended the 14th National Sahodaya Conference at Chandigarh.It was at Punjab University Campus on 2nd and 3rd November 2007. Around 400 principals of CBSE schools were the delegates.

He also participated a one day seminar exclusively for the Principals of CBSE schools, organized by Sahodaya Schools Complex, Malabar Region on 7th January, 2008. Prof. Mathew C. Ninan (Director, Little Rock Institute for Educational Leadership, Udupi, Karnataka, led the programme.

CBSE Kalotsav -2007

The staging of the CBSE Kalotsav- 2007 was awarded to our school by the Sahodaya Schools Complex Malabar Region. Students from nearly 50 schools from the Districts of Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad and Wayanad actively participated in it. The inaugural function was held on Monday 10th September 2007.

Guru Chemanjeri Kunhiraman Nair, Renouned Kathakali Artiste lighted the lamp to mark the inauguration of the Cultural Fest. Mar Paul Chittilapilly , Bishop of Thamarassery ; Mr. N. Ramachandran Nair, Secretary, Sahodaya Schools Complex Malabar Region; Mr. K Unnikrishnan , President, Sahodaya Schools Complex, Malabar Region & Principal Airport School, Calicut ; Mrs. Suma Rajesh, President, Thamarassery Grama Panchayat; Mr. A.P Mustafa , Member , Thamarassery Grama Panchayath and Mr. Viswanathan P.K , Parents’ Representative spoke on the occasion. Fr. George Thomas Chelackal, Principal Alphonsa Senior Secondary School and General Convenor, CBSE Kalotsav-2007, delivered the welcome address and Mr. Paulose K.A Convenor of the Programme Committee proposed the vote of thanks.

The valedictory function was attended by Msgr. Thomas Nagaparambil Vicar General, Diocese of
Thamarassery & President, Alphonsa Educational and Charitable Trust; Mr. P.K Gopi, Noted Poet and Lyricist ; Mr. Ummer Master, (Vice-President, Grama Panchayat, Thamarassery) ; Fr. Jospeh Mannoor , Manager, Alphonsa Senior Secondary School, Thamarassery and the office bearers of Sahodaya Schools Complex Malabar Region.

In connection with the event we brought out a full page newspaper supplement in the Malayala Manorama Daily. Malappuram, Calicut Editions and Rashtra Deepika Daily and erected 6 welcome arches. The pull out was officially released during the inaugural funtion. All these were made possible by the whole-hearted co-operation of our beloved parents and well-wishers. Silver Hills Public School, Calicut secured the first position and Alphonsa Senior Secondary School became the runners up.

The first Inter Sahodaya Quiz Competition under the aegis of confederation of Kerala Sahodaya School Complexes was held at Alphonsa Senior Secondary School on 24th November 2007. The public programme was inaugurated by Mr. Francis K.A, Secretary, Confederation of Sahodaya Schools Complexes, and Kerala. All the office bearers of Sahodaya Schools Complex Malabar Region were present on that occasion.

Corporate Teachers get together

Corporate Educational Agency, Thamarassery Diocese, organised a one day seminar at Alphonsa School. Nearly one thousand teachers were present for the same. The arrangement of the seminar was entrusted to Alphonsa School. Beyond doubt my teachers and students made it a grant success.

The conduct of the above mentioned events showed me the spirit of co-operation, commitment and dedication of my teachers and students. Our teachers’ and students’ love and trust are really praiseworthy. I wish to place on record my sincere appreciation to every one of them for the meticulous way in which they organize and run their respective duties.

Shalom Biblia

Two teams from Alphonsa School representing high school and Senior secondary respectively participated in Biblia, The school Bible Quiz conducted by Shalom Television. We secured first position in both categories. Congratulations.

Annual Day 2007

His Grace Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy, Archbishop of the Trissur Arch diocese, was the Honourable Chief guest of the day. Fr. George Thomas Chelackal thanked him for his kind presence and enlightening words and added that they are the real blessings for Alphonsa. Fr. George proudly remembered the day His Grace mar Jacob Thoomkuhy called and asked him to go for Teacher training course (B.Ed.) which was a turning point in Fr. George’s priestly ministry.

Academic Year 2008-2009

Very Rev. Fr. Paul Maroky, the former Science professor of St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary, Vadavathoor, visited our school and talked to the students on 4th July.

A 100 KV Transformer was erected and charged for the needs of Alphonsa School on 4th August 2008.

In order to motivate the students to read the Deepika Daily, a project called ‘’Deepika Nammude Bhasha Padhathi’’ was inaugurated on 5th of August. Mr. Johnson P. Augustine, Deepika Resident Manager, Kozhikode was the chief guest.

As per CBCI instruction all the Christian Institutions in India remain closed on 29th August to protest against the violence on Christians in Orissa. Alphonsa School too positively responded to it.

Canonization of Blessed Alphonsa

12th of October was an important and memorable day for all Keralites especially the faithful of the Syro Malabar Church. The canonization ceremony of Blessed Alphonsa took place at Vatican in Rome. Mar Paul Chittilapilly and a few priests from the Diocese of Thamarassery participated in the same.

In order to inculcate the reading habit among the students a book fair was held for two days in the month of October and it was organized by St. Paul Book Centre, Calicut. A traffic awareness programme was organized on 14th January, 2009 in the school as part of the Road Safety Week. Mr. Tom C.T., DYSP, Thamarassery addressed the gathering. It was followed by a seminar for High School students. Mr. Susheer K, the Sub Inspector of Police and team conducted it. A PowerPoint CD programme prepared by Alphonsa School on “School Children and Road Safety” was handed over to Sub Inspector of Police, Thamarassery by the principal on the same day.

Palliative care day was observed on 15th of January. Special leaflets were issued to conscientise the students to participate the humanitarian programme. A few students participated the World Wild Life Fund Green Gathering Programme conducted at Prestige Public School, Calicut on 17th January.

Parents Seminar

Our parents have always been our most loyal allies. Their co-operation and faith in us has been the mainstay of this institution. Alphonsa’s only source of publicity is its parents and students. We are ever grateful to our parents for their unconditional loyalty and support. Parents get to know the school through their children. Our children are a source of perennial joy and motivation to us.

We arranged seminars and workshops for parents. Rev. Fr. Francis Karakatt, SDB, Vice principal, Don Bosco Collage Angadikadavu, Kannur led the seminar on 18th July 2008. Sri George Karunackal, Director, Prospects Management consultancy, Kochi talked to the parents on 2nd January 2009.

Teacher’s Seminar

The quality and commitment of the staff is the most decisive factor that goes to determine the effectiveness of a school. We are blessed with such a nice staff. A committed teacher is a happy teacher, and a happy teacher alone can turn out good and capable human being out of the children.

“To be a teacher in the right sense is to be a learner. I am not a teacher, only a fellow student”. The famous saying of Soren Kierkegaard is apt even today. We arranged two days special in-service programme for our teachers. Prof. Mathew C. Ninan, Principal, Little Rock Public School Brahmavar, Karnataka- led the programme.

All the heads of the departments and a few teachers attended workshops and seminars organized by confederation of Sahodaya School Complexes and other agencies.

Fr. George Thomas Chelackal attended two days All Kerala Principals Conference and Training-2008, under Confederation of Kerala Sahodaya School Complexes on 24th & 25th of November-2008.

Seminar for the Students

There were a few number of training programmes for our students. Mr. Abraham Kurian IPS (Retd.), The Academic Director, START conducted a seminar for the students of standards XI and XII on 24th July, 2008. Rev. Fr. Roy Kannanchira CMI, Kochettan DCL led a seminar on 5th August. Two days seminar conducted on 2 nd and 3rd of January by Sri. George Karunackal motivated the students of standards X and XII to prepare properly for their public examination.

Fr. George Thomas Chelackal prepared a few PowerPoint CD programmes such as Value education, Basic good manners, Teenage Psychology, Phonetics, Tip to Studies, Children and Traffic Safety, Time Management etc.for Secondary and Senior Seconday class students and presented them using the Audio Visual Theatre on various occasions.

Self Examination Centre

The Chairman of CBSE allotted again Alphonsa School as an examination centre for Board Examination-2009.

Academic Year 2009-2010

Msgr. Remigius Inchananiyil

18th January 2010 was an important day for us. Msgr. Remigius Inchananiyil was declared as the next Bishop of Thamarassery. On 19th January the school felicitated the Bishop-elect of Thamarassery.

Jai Hind Programme

Alphonsa School got a goldenopportunity to present an Audio Visual Programme, ‘Jai Hind’ Directed by Sri. Kanakadas, Perambra in connection with the Confederation of Kerala Sahodaya Complexes, All Kerala Principals’conference on 2nd October at Gokulam Park, Cochin. 40 students were involved in it. The august gathering included the CBSEChairman, Sri. Vineet Joshi IAS, Dr. Sadhana Parashar, Educational Officer, CBSE, Delhi; Sri. N. Nagarju, Regional Officer, Channai and 450 CBSE Principals of Kerala. Our students mesmerized the audience with their marvellous performance. It was well appreciated on that day. It was an unforgettable experience for all of us.

Seminars and Orientation Programme

A one day seminar for students of standards X and XII was arranged in the beginning of the academic year by the principal.

A documentary film was screened to conscientise the students on the evils of drug addiction on 4th July 2009.

On 19th August 2009, Dr. K.P. Abdul Rasheed, Medical Officer, Community Health Centre, Thamarassery, addressed the staff and students to bring about an awareness on H1N1 influenza and the measures to be taken. In this regard the school distributed handbills on the importance of cleanliness in everyday life.

Twelve of our students participated in an enrichment camp for future makers organized by Sahodaya Schools Complex Malabar Region at PMOC Calicut. Many prominent figures like Mr. Bala Kiran IAS, Assistant Collector Calicut enriched the students. In order to promote national sense and patriotism the school arranged a special screening of the film Pazhassiraja for the students of the school.

On 13th January 2010, a half day seminar was arranged f or the students of standards X and XII by Prof. Mathew C. Ninan, Principal, Little Rock Indian School, Uduppi. On the same day a seminar was arranged for the parents of the studentsof stds X and XII as well.

The school sent a representative to all KeralaParents’ awareness programme held at Devagiri Public School, Calicut. CBSE Chairman, Sri. Vineet Joshi and other dignitaries from the Board spoke at length on the importance of continuous and comprehensive evaluation that will be implemented in all CBSE schools. It was hosted by Sahodays Schools Complexes and the Fr. George Thomas Chelackal, the principal, had the privilege to address the gathering.

On 28th May 2009 Rev. Dr. Jose Panthackal CST conducted a one day seminar for the teachers. Our teachers attended a number of seminars organized by Sahodaya Schools Complex, Malabar Region and various other agencies.

Fr. George Thomas Chelackal attended Sahodaya Annual Conference 2009, organized by CBSE, New Delhi, at Gurgaon from 9th to 12th December 2009.

Alphonsa Charitable Fund

Inorder to inculcate social values in the minds of the students, we celebrated the feast of St. Alphonsa our Heavenly Patroness in a special way. The staff and students generously contributed Rs. 31100 to help the poor and the needy. The fund was used for the following.

  1. 15 days midday meals at Community Health Centre, Thamarassery.
  2. Lunch and gifts for the inmates of Sneha Bhavan, Athanickal, Calicut.
  3. Financial help to Karuna Bhavan Chevayur, Calicut.

Kalotsav-2009

Sahodaya Schools Complex Malabar Region chose Alphonsa School Thamarassery as the venue for CBSE Kalotsav- 2009. The Kalotsav was held on 10th and 11th October 2009 on our campus. The Kalotsav was inaugurated by Mar. Paul Chittilapilly Bishop of Thamarassery. Msgr. Thomas Nagaparambil presided over the valedictory function. I would like to place on record the commitment and dedication of my teaching and non-teaching staff and students who toiled hard to make it a success.

Recognitions

The Government of India National Commission for Minority Educational Institution granted Alphonsa English Medium School, Thamarassery the status of a Minority Educational Institution on 29th of May 2009.

Fr. George Thomas Chelackal was unanimously elected the president of Sahodaya Schools Complex Malabar Region on 7th August 2009. CBSE Chairman appointed Fr. George Thomas, the Principal as the co-ordinator Calicut city, for the conduct of All India Engineering Entrance Examination in 2009. The chairman appointed Fr. George Thomas in the same capacity again for conducting All India Engineering Entrance Examination scheduled to be held on 25th April 2010.

The CBSE authorities appointed Fr. George Thomas Chelackal, the principla of Alphonsa English Medium School as a member of the inspection panel to inspect schools seeking affiliation with CBSE New Delhi.

Academic Year 2010-2011

Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil

Alphonsa School accorded a warm welcome to Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil, the Bishop of
Thamarassery and Patron of our school on 4th June 2010. The Bishop officially inaugurated the new academic year and stressed the need to impart quality education and drew attention to the importance of inculcating moral and social values in the formation of future generation. Your Excellency congratulated the outgoing students on their outstanding performance on the CBSE Board Examination 2010.

Rev. Fr. George Kalappurackal was appointed Bursar of Alphonsa school by Mar Remigiose Inchananyil on 8th May 2010 and assumed the charge of Manager on 8th June 2010.

I would like to place on record the meritorious service of Rev. Fr. Tomy K.M Vice Principal and Bursar of Alphonsa School. I sincerely acknowledge his co-operation for the growth and development of the school. Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Mannoor, Our former manager was always a source of inspiration to us. His timely advice and guidance in the administration of the school helped a lot for the running of this institution.

Mar Paul Chittilapilly

Alphonsa School formally bid good bye to Your Lordship Mar Paul Chittilapilly the former patron, on 30th June 2010. A special meeting was arranged in this connection to express our gratitude to Your Lordship for the dynamic leadership and proper nurturing of Alphonsa School to Alphonsa Senior Secondary School.

Seminars and Orientation Programme

The Central Board of Secondary Education introduced continuous and comprehensive Evaluation
(CCE) in Secondary School level with effect from 2010. As per the new curriculum assessment of a child is based on four formative Assessments and two summative assessments. The present system would go a long way to revolutionize the concept of all round development of a child. To familiarize the parents the new system we conducted orientation programmes in CCE for all parents on 13th and 14th of October 2010.

An Orientation Programme was arranged on 15th of January 2011 for the Mothers of the students
of Stds VIII to XI.

There were a number of training programmes for our students too. On 4th October 2010 we arranged a career guidance aptitude Test for students of stds. X to XII. The programme was led by Major Shiju Thomas , Zonal Head, Medvista and Advocate Rev.Fr. Thomas Puthiaparambil, Director KCYM, Thamarassery.

Rev. Fr. Vincent Perepadan S.J. , Director, Snehasena, on 7th December 2010 , conducted a seminar
for our students and motivate them to inculcate the habit of reading books with good moral values.

A motivational programme for Std. X, XII is scheduled to be conducted on 31st January. Sri. George Karunackal lead the session.

We arranged a number of inservice orientation programmes for our teachers. All the heads of the
departments and a few teachers attended workshops and seminars organised by Sahodaya Schools Complex Malabar Region and other agencies.

Recognitions

Unanimously elected as the president of Sahodaya schools Complex Malabar Region on 14th July 2010.

Appointed as the co-ordinator, Kozhikode City for the conduct of All India Engineering Entrance
Examination in 2011 sheduled to be held on 1st of May. 15,000 students are expected to attend the
same.

Appointed as a memebr of the inspection panelto inspect schools seeking affiliation with CBSE, New Delhi by the CBSE authorities.

Other

On 12th January 2011, we conducted a cleaning drive in our campus as part of the ongoing Mass
action for a plastic waste-free Kozhikode.

Attended the CCE implementation and technological upgradation seminar on 20th November 2010 at Calicut. Mr. N Nagaraju, the Regional Officer, CBSE, Chennai was the Chief Guest.

Attended the 18th National Sahodaya Conference at Banglore, on 19th to 21 December, 2010.

Academic Year 2011-2012

The Ministry of Human Resource Devlopment, Govt.of India, entrusted the responsibility of conducting the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) to the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi. The first test was on 26th June 2011 all over India. There were three centres in Kerala. The Chairman CBSE, Delhi appointed Fr. George Thomas Chelackal, the principal of Alphonsa School as the Co-Ordinator of Kozhikode City and Alphonsa School was one of the examination centres for the same. Sri. R.P.Singh, Asst. Education officer CBSE was the Team Head. The team visited our school on 25th June 2011.

On 16th September, Mr.V.M.Ummer Master, M.L.A.,Koduvally, inaugurated UID AADHAR Project in Alphonsa School. Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil, the Bishop of Thamarassery, presided over the function. Aadhar is a 12 – digit unique number which the Unique Identification Authority of India will
issue for all residents in India. This agency is a part of the Planning Commission of India. Msgr.
Thomas Nagaparambil, Mr.Sajith N.P., Akshaya Kendra Thamarassery, were present on the occasion.

Over the last few decades everything has changed in our lives with the all-pervasive intervention of
technology. We introduced the Educomp Smart Class in Alphonsa to improve academic performance of our students. The official launching of the Smart Class was done by Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil, on 3rd November, 2011. Msgr.Thomas Nagaparambil, Very Rev. Fr. Christy Palliyody, Chancellor, Diocese of Thamarassery and Mr.Manjush P.T. Business Development Manager Educomp Solutions were present.

125th Birthday Celebration of the Deepika Daily was on 29th November. On that occasion they
launched a scheme. ‘’Snehapooravam Sahapadikk’’ a venture to lend helping hand to the school going children who suffer from cancer. Fr. George Thomas Chelackal handed over a cheque for Rs. 1 lakh to Sri. K. M Mani, Finance Minister of Kerala, to support the noble venture of the Deepika Daily along with the School representatives.

Mr. Sebastian K.V. HOD English got a golden opportunity to present new edition of English Club on Shalom T.V. Our students were the guest participants.

Sri. Pitam Singh, Director Spl. Exam Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, visited our school on 18th December in connection with the fixation of AIEEE Centres in Kerala, especially in
Kozhikode City.

The Inaugural function of State Level Activities of Kerala State Branch Indian Medical Association Committee for child welfare for the year 2011-2012 was held at Alphonsa School on 10th January 2012. A seminar on the topic “Success without stress” for secondary and senior secondary school students was conducted on the same day. Dr.Beena Johnson, consultant in child and Adolescent guidance, Baby Memorial Hospital, Calicut led the seminar. Other dignitaries of IMA were present on the occasion. Attended the 19th National Sahodaya Conference at Chennai from 26th to 29th December 2011.

Co-ordinator Kozhikode City

Appointed as the Co-ordinator of Kozhikode City for the conduct of two prestigious examinations namely All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) and the Central Teachers Eligibility Test (CTET-2012). The CTET examination 2012 held on 29th January and AIEEE-2012 on 29th April 2012. More than 30000 students attended the exam in Kozhikode City. More than 60 examination Centres were ready for this purpose. Also was appointed as a member of the Inspection Panel
to inspect schools inside and outside Kerala seeking affiliation with CBSE, New Delhi.

Academic Year 2012-2013

New building of Alphonsa School

On 12th June 2012, Msgr. Thomas Nagaparambil , the manager, blessed the stone and led the prayers for the footing work of the new building of Alphonsa School. Mr.Thomas Mattam, Engineer, Mattam Constructions and Fr. George Thomas Chelackal, the principal Alphonsa School were present on the occasion.

Alphonsa Charitable Fund

We celebrated the feast of St.Alphonsa in a different style. Our teachers and students contributed generously to help and support the vic tims of Pullora mpara landslide Msgr. Thomas Nagaparambil received the amount (Rs.50,055/-) from the school for the construction of a home for the family of Late Kumari Joshna of Anackampoyil, who lost her life in the landslide.

Rs.15,000/- was handed over to Mr.Sebastian Valavananickal, president, St.Vincent De Paul Society, Thamarassery to provide 15 days midday meals at Govt.Thaluk Hospital , Thamarassery.

The Alphonsians once again showed their generosity and thoughtfulness by contributing dress materials for the poor and needy. The same was handed over to Rev.Fr.Sunny Sebastian M.S.T., a priest working among the tribals in Mandya diocese, Karnataka.

Life Guidance Programme

Our students participated in the life guidance programme organized by K.C.Y.M., Diocese of
Thamarassery. Fr. Sebastian Kavalakkatt, Director, K.C.Y.M, inagurated the seminar. Fr.Anvesh Palakkel Sr. Rosmy and Mrs.Shanty were the resource persons.

Anti Drug Awareness Programme

Excise Department under the Government of Kerala arranged a seminar at Alphonsa School on 11th November to bring about awareness among the children against drug abuse. Mr.Devasia V.T., Joint Excise Commissioner, North Zone, Kozhikode, inauguarated the seminar. Mr. Muhammed, Asst.Excise Inspector spoke at length on the harmful effects of drug abuse and the need to abjure it. Fr.George Thomas Chelackal, the Principal, presided over the function. Mr. T. Rajeevan, Excise
Inspector, Thamarassery was present on the occasion. A drama, under the aegis of the Excise Department, Government of Kerala, was staged to highlight the consequences of drug addiction. The actors put their heart and soul in their performance to convey the message.

Visit of C.B.S.E Team

In connection with Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) a C.B.S.E Team visited Alphonsa School on 18th November 2012. Mrs. Chandrika, Education Officer, C.B.S.E was the team head. Our School was one of the centres for CTET – 2012.

Dr.MIMS Health Education Van

MIMS Hospital, Kozhikode, arranged a programme called “Basic Life Support” at Alphonsa School. It was a useful and informative programme for the children to learn more about first aid and other health tips.

Sreedhumon Fund

We contributed Rs.25000/- for the kidney treatment of Sreedhumon a student of Govt.H.S.S. Korangad, Thamarassery. Mr.Aravindan, President, Grama Panchayat, Thamarassery received the amount from the principal, Fr. George Thomas Chelackal. Mr.K.Chandran, and Mr.Ashraf Korangad, committee members too were present on the occasion. Kidney Dialysis Centre at Govt.Thaluk Hospital, Thamrassery. Alphonsa School contributed Rs.30000/- for starting kidney dialysis and rehabilitation Centre for kidney patients at Govt.Thaluk Hospital, Thamarassery.

Dharsanam – Magazine

Official launching of a magazine called Dharsanam under the aegis of Nehru Dharsan, Kozhikode, was arranged at Alphonsa School on 3rd December 2012. Dr.Khadeeja Mumthaz, Prof.Medical College, Kozhikode, Dept. of Gynaecology and noted writer in Malayalam, handed over the first copy of Dharsanam to Kumari.Anamika Thilak of Alphonsa School who penneda poem “Iq«p -Im -cn”in it. Dr. Maya Sudakar, President, Prophylexis Foundation & Asst.Prof.Medical College, Kozhikode, Mr.Santhosh Vengeri, Unit Chief, Kerala Kaumudi, Newspaper, Kozhikode, Mr.M Jayathilakan, Chief Bureau, Mangalam Newspaper, Kozhikode and Mr.Devasiakutty District President, Nehru Dharsan, Kozhikode were present on the occasion.

Sacerdotal Silver Jubilee Celebration.

Alphonsa School celebrated the Sacerdotal Silver Jubilee of Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil, our patron and Fr.George Thomas Chelackal, principal Alphonsa School on 7th December 2012.

The Celebrations began with the Holy Mass offered by the jubilarians. Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil was the main celebrant Msgr. Thomas Nagaparambil and Fr. George Thomas Chelackal were the co-celebrants. A colourful cultural programme was arranged to felicitate the Jubilarians.

Seminars and workshops

Our teachers participated in a number of inservice orientation courses and workshops organized by the Sahodaya Schools Complex, Malabar Region and other agencies. Fr. George Thomas Chelackal attended the All Kerala C.B.S.E Principals’ Conference held at Cochin on 1st and 2nd October, 2012

Co-ordinator of JEE and NEET

Appointed as the Co-ordinator of Kozhikode City to oversee the smooth conduct of JEE and NEET – 2013 in different centres in Kozhikode City.

New Building

School Management is very particular in promoting modern and new infrastructure facilities to the
students. A new administrative block with a number of class rooms is under construction. Our
patron, Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil, with his great vision and clear convictions on true and quality
education inspired and encouraged us to undertake the construction. The new building is also the
fruit of the relentless efforts of our Manager, Msgr.Thomas Nagaparambil. With the completion of
the new Block we will be able to provide maximum facilities to our students.

The school used to face scarcity of water for a few weeks in summer for the last few years. The
digging of a bore well and availability of sufficient water seems to have solved the problem forever.

Academic Year 2013-2014

CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) 2013

In connection with CTET – 2013 a C.B.S.E Team visited Alphonsa School on 27th July 2013. Mrs.Chandira, Asst.Secretary , C.B.S.E was the team head. Our School was one of the centres for CTET-2013.

Joint Engineering Entrance Exam(JEE)

The Coordination meeting of JEE 2013 was held at Alphonsa School on 6th April 2013. 11 officials from CBSE New Delhi headed by Dr. B.N. Singh, Deputy Director CBSE New Delhi, 67 principals , 80 observers from different parts of India attended the meeting.

National Eligibility Entrance Test(NEET)

The Coordination meeting of National Eligibility Entrance Test(NEET),2013 was held again in Alphonsa School on 4th May 2013. 10 CBSE officials headed by Shri. Sameer Datta, Dy. Secretary CBSE Delhi, 42 Principals and 60 observers from different parts of India attended the meeting.

CTET/JEE/NEET City Coordinator

Appointed as the City Coordinator, Kozhikode by CBSE Chairman Mr. Vineeth Joshi for the smooth conduct of JEE-2013, NEET -2013,CTET – 2013 in different centres in Kozhikode City. Appointed as the Kozhikode City Coordinator for CTET-2014 & All India Preliminary Medical Test -2014.

New Building Inauguration

The formal inauguration of new block of Alphonsa Senior Secondary School was held on 14th December, 2013 at a glittering ceremony. Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil, Bishop of Thamarassery presided over the function. Sri. V. M. Ummer Master, M.L.A., Koduvally formally inaugurated the new block. Mar Paul Chittilapilly, Bishop Emeritus, Diocese of Thamarassery in his Benedictory message highlighted the achievements made by the school. Sri. A. Aravindan, President, Grama Panchayath Thamarassery, Fr. Thomas Nagaparambil, the Manager were also present on the occasion.

Mr. John Keezeth F/O Anoop Joe handed over Rs. 100,000/- (One lakh only) to Msgr. Mathew Mavely, Chairman Alphonsa Educational & Charitable Trust to institute an endowment in memory of Anoop Joe an engineer who left us for his eternal reward following an accident in Singapore. This endowment will be given to the AISSCE Topper from the 2013 Academic year onwards.

Academic Year 2014-2015

Coordinator

Appointed as the Kozhikode City coordinator for AIPMT(All India Pre Medical/ Pre Dental Entrance Test), CTET(Central Teacher Eligibility Test), JEE(Joint Engineering Entrance Exam), Udaan a dream project of the Union Government and National Unity day celebrations in 2014-15 by the C.B.S.E. chairman Mr. Vineeth Joshi. In this connection Senior C.B.S.E officials from New Delhi and Chennai visited the school.

Alphonsa school was an exam centre for three prestigious National level examinations namely; All India Premedical and Dental Test(AIPMT), Joint Engineering Examination(JEE) and Central Teacher Eligibility Test(CTET).

Alphonsa School was made the nodal centre for the National Unity Day celebrations at the district level, marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel. More than 800 students attended the Unity Day seminar and participated in various competitions and unity run.

Udaan a programme to give wings to girl student was launchedby the Union government in 2014.Alphonsa school is one of three centres in Kerala for online classes to empower girl students for admission to IIT’s and other leading engineering colleges in India.

Academic Year 2016-2017

Msgr. Mathew Mavely was appointed as the Manager of Alphonsa School in May 2016. Fr. Jilson Thayyil joined the school as a teacher in this academic year.

Silver Jubilee Year

Formal Inauguration of the academic year and release of the Silver Jubilee logo was done by Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil, our beloved Patron. Alphonsa Senior Secondary School, Thamarassery arranged various programmes to mark the Reading week as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations. An inter-school quiz competition for High School students was held on the occasion. At a special function organised in this regard noted poet and lyricist Mr. P.K. Gopi delivered the keynote address and gave away the prizes.

St. Alphonsa Kindergarten

Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil blessed the Silver Jubilee memorial St. Alphonsa Kindergarten on 16th
June, 2016. St. Alphonsa Kindergarten was formally inaugurated by Mr. Karat Razak . M.LA.,
Koduvally on 30th July, 2016.

On the same day the Silver Jubilee Hall was inaugurated by Mar Paul Chittilapilly. Dr. Joseph Emmanuel, Secretary C.B.S.E. New Delhi was the Guest of Honour. Feast of St. Alphonsa Feast of St. Alphonsa was celebrated in a befitting manner. Fr. Thomas Parankulangara.Director, KCYM delivered the Festal Day message.

The Chairman of the C.B.S.EO New Delhi selecte ed Fr. George Thomas Chelackal for the coveted C.B.S.E. National Award to Teachers 2015. Msgr. Mathew Mavely formally announced the selection at a special gathering held on 22nd August.2016.

Fr. George Thomas Chelackal received the prestigious C.B.S.E. National Teacher Award from Shri Upendra Kushwaha. Union Minister of State Human Pesource and Development on 3rd September at a function held in New Delhi. The management. The parents and the staff arranged a grand reception in honour of Fr. George Thomas Chelackal,in the gracious presence of Shri. A.K. Saseendran, the Hon. Minister of Transport on 9th September, 2016.

Fr. George Thomas Chelackal, Principal of Alphonsa English Medium School, Thamarassery, has been chosen by the Central Board of Secondary Education for the “CBSE Award to Teachers for the year-2015”, in recognition of his meritorious service in the field of education. The announcement coincided with the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Alphonsa school.

C.B.S.E. training for teachers

A two day training programme was conducted for Social Science teachers of CBSE schools of Malabar region organised b/ CBSE on August 19th & 20th in Alphonsa School.

Another two day seminar on Inclusion and Inclusive Strategies was arranged by C.B S.E. on 15th and 16th December. Teachers from 22 schools participated in the seminar.

Principals’ Seminar

Fr. George Thomas Chelackal attended All Kerala CBSE Principals’ conference on 1st and 2nd of October. Hon. Justice Kurian Joseph, the Chief Guest of the inaugural session of the conference honoured Fr. George Thomas with a memento for being one of the recipients of the CBSE National Teacher Award.

Alphonsa Charity Fund was used for the construction of a Silver Jubilee Memorial home for a needy person. The keys of the same will be handed over during this meeting. Besides the Alphonsian Community, the parents and the well-wishers together have promised a sum of Rs.800000/-.

C.B.S.E. appointments

b) Coordinator of Syllabus Revision Committee of Malayalam of Stds IX to Xll.

Also appointed as the Head Examiner of Social Science in the year 2015.

Alumni Meet 2016

The Silver Jubilee Alumni Meet was organised on 26th December 2016 in the presence of our beloved Patron Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil. Of the 1300 plus alumni, more than 400 attended the get-together.

Silver Jubilee Celebration

Hon Mr. Justice Kurian Joseph was the chief guest of the Silver Jubilee Function
inspired and enriched. The esteemed presence of Shri. T.P. Ramakrishnan enhanced the joy
and happiness this evening.

Since its inception in 1992 the school has earned considerable appreciation for providing value based education and for imparting the ideals of academic excellence. Till date 12 batches of class Xll and 16 batches of class X comprising 393 and 1077 students respectively have successfully gone out of the portals of Alphonsa School.
